Sampling Bailers

Bailers are a device used to collect groundwater samples from piezometers and monitoring wells. They are simply a tube with a bottom valve that is attached to a retrieving line or cord. Samples are collected by gently lowering the bailer into the well and allowing water to fill from the base upwards through a non-return ball valve. As the sample is retrieved, the ball will sink to the bottom of the bailer to close and trap the water.
